Othello: Soundtrack to Life
Assignment

You are going to choose one character from Othello and then create a personal soundtrack to represent that character. Pick songs that represent a personality trait, a conflict, a belief, a stage in life, or a flaw in that character. You may choose any character, but please choose a character about which we know enough to actually judge his or her life. In other words, don't pick the clown from Act III.

What will you hand in?

1. A songbook with the lyrics. If it is an acoustic piece, describe the music (the violins trail off into silence). NOTE: if you include an acoustic (no lyrics) pieces of music, you MUST include the music with your project.

2. Next to each set of lyrics, explain how the lyrics represent the character. What's the connection? Why is this the *perfect* song for the character you chose? This section should be about four to eight sentences – don't write a novel here.

3. (Optional for extra credit) Create either a CD or a tape of the music for me to listen to as I grade your writing.
